I met a young lady on one of my assignments (aka jobs) that always seemed to be on the defense. Anything that happened, even something that didn’t seem like an issue became an issue. One day, while in prayer, I prayed for her and while praying I saw this little girl who kept fighting for her life. I saw an abused child, and understood a little better who I was working with. I didn’t talk to her about it; I just tried to work differently with her. Later on, she wrote a book, and the book revealed much of what I saw in prayer.
Today, I was reminded of herStory, which is really HIStory and I was reminded of a poem I wrote about 12 years ago called Do You Know ME? Here’s an excerpt:
“Do You Know Me?
Do you know ME?
They call me…Victim
A victim of …Circumstance
Because I fell
…Fell in love with
…the “wrong” man
A troubled man
I saw the signs, but I thought…
I thought I was… “the one”
The one that will change him
Surely, he won’t treat me like…
…like the others
I am special
I am a lady
Do you know ME?
They call me…abused
An abused woman
Scarred emotionally
And physically
Because he told me
…he told me I was nothing
…no one will ever love me…
Love me like he could…”
“And I believed him
So, I married him
And he hit me, because…
Just because I looked
too pretty
Do you know ME?
I am woman
I am woman
Woman hit by...
Woman kicked by…
Woman shot by…
Woman stabbed by…
Woman called names by…
My counterpart…
…man”

Let’s remember to be kind to others, because we don’t know the weight of the burdens they are carrying. We think that each person is just like us, and is experiencing life the same as we are, but that is not the case.
In the process, remember to be kind with yourself. Love you always!
Continued Blessings...
